GSCC Urges Swift Action on Prince County Hospital Critical Care Services

For Immediate Release

Summerside, January 25th, 2024 – The Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce is expressing deep concern over the ongoing challenges facing the critical care services at Prince County Hospital. The GSCC wants to highlight the urgency of addressing these issues and calls for transparent communication and concrete actions.

In an effort to address the concerns that have been plaguing the Prince County Hospital, the GSCC had the opportunity to engage with community partners, the PCH, and Health PEI in two separate meetings held 10 months ago. The purpose was to discuss the critical state of intensive-care services at that time. The GSCC is now seeking an update on the actions taken since those discussions to ensure the well-being of the community were taken seriously.

The GSCC stands firmly in support of the dedicated medical professionals at PCH, especially the doctors who have been managing the increased workload resulting from the challenges faced by the hospital.

“We want to express our solidarity with the doctors and medical staff at Prince County Hospital who have been working tirelessly to maintain critical care services under challenging circumstances. Their commitment to the community is commendable, and we stand with them in finding sustainable solutions,” Kaley O’Brien, CEO of the GSCC added.

In line with the concerns raised by the City of Summerside, the GSCC echoes the call for the provincial Health Minister, Mark McLane, to attend the upcoming public town hall scheduled for February 1, at 7 p.m. at Credit Union Place in Summerside.

“We join the City of Summerside in urging Minister Mark McLane to attend the town hall and address the concerns of the community directly. The well-being of our residents is paramount, and we believe that open communication and collaboration are crucial in finding swift and effective solutions to the challenges faced by Prince County Hospital,” emphasized O’Brien.

The GSCC remains committed to advocating for the health and well-being of the Summerside community and will continue to engage with relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of quality healthcare services at Prince County Hospital.
