Chamber calling for Board of Directors applications and committee/taskforce positions

The Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce (GSCC)
is putting out an open call for applications for the 2022-2023 Board of Directors as well as
committee and taskforce members, with a closing date of May 1, 2022.

The Board of Directors are volunteers from diverse professional backgrounds who are elected to
oversee the affairs of the GSCC in accordance with its by-laws. Each committee and taskforce
are lead by a member of the Board of Directors, with other Chamber members volunteering their
time to plan, strategize, and execute to help the Chamber continue to grow and offer value to its
members and community.

“For over 120 years community leaders have governed and strategically guided the GSCC,” said
Tara Maddix, Executive Director of the Chamber. “The Chamber values the dedication and
commitment of these individuals and encourages anyone who considers themselves to be a
leader to consider applying to be a board, committee or taskforce member with the Chamber.”

Board of Director applicants must be a member in good standing thirty days prior to the nominee
application closing date of May 1, 2022. Member in good standing is the status assigned to a
member of the GSCC whereby the organization has remained current on Chamber membership
fees and payments. The term is construed under ordinary rules and with reference to the by-laws
of the GSCC.

“Serving on the Board of the Chamber for the past 5 years has been an extremely rewarding
experience for me,” said GSCC President, Tyler Kowalski. “This role has provided an
opportunity to represent our local business community and connect with members and
stakeholders in a new way. I highly recommend volunteering with the Chamber. Whether you
join a committee, or become a board member your voice can make a difference”.

The Chamber asks all those interested in applying for a Board of Director position to consider
the following list of expectations prior to submitting an application:

• Be viewed as, and conduct oneself as a responsible corporate citizen.
• Adhere to all policies of the Chamber Board.
• Declare any conflicts of interest.
• Have the support of your employer to hold the position of board member.
• Attend a minimum of 6 Board meetings per year as well as the Chamber’s Annual
General Meeting.
• Make best efforts to attend special events with politicians and dignitaries.

• Participate in or lead a task force/committee of the Chamber if asked.
• Assist with efforts to help the Chamber grow. You must be a representative for the
Chamber and its members and effectively promote our program and projects.
