Ban on the Manufacture and Import of Certain Single-Use Plastic Items Begins in December

As of December 20, 2022, the manufacture and import for sale in Canada of single-use plastic checkout bags, cutlery, foodservice ware, stir sticks and straws (i.e., straight straws), as defined in the Regulations, will be prohibited.

By reducing plastic pollution, the Single-use Plastics Prohibition Regulations hopes to reduce harm to wildlife
and their habitats and increase Canadians’ enjoyment of nature.
