Derek Key receives Chamber’s Lifetime Member award

At the GSCC’s annual President’s Dinner, Derek Key of Key Murray Law, was awarded the Chamber’s Lifetime Membership Award.

The Lifetime Membership Award is presented to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the development and promotion of our community.  It is awarded at the discretion of the GSCC Board.  Past recipients include Harry Snow and D. Alex MacDonald.

Derek, who is currently Lead Director for the Bank of Canada, has been an active participant in the Summerside community as President of the Prince County Hospital Foundation Board, President of the Rotary Club of Summerside and Vice Chair of the 2009 Canada Summer Games Bid Committee. He was also an instrumental member of the team which worked to attract the tax centre to Summerside after the Slemon Park base closed and of the Rotary team which raised the money for the current library.  He is currently involved with the Rotary Inspire Learning Centre, a regional learning centre which will be located in the old Service Canada building on Central Street.

Derek is a member of the Order of Canada, a Life Member of Scouts Canada and, in 2010, was awarded the Law Society of Prince Edward Island’s Distinguished Community Service Award.
