A BizVoice interview with Sylvia Doiron

Meet Sylvia

“Word of mouth is the best advertisement you can get and we seem to have lots of it.”

What is your name and name of the business?

My business is Pins & Needles, I have been in business for over 20 years now. I started in Summerside and have been in the downtown area the whole time.

What inspired you to start this business, and what made you choose your location?

My Children had grown and moved out and I have been sewing since I was 18 years old. That’s a lot of years, we don’t need to talk about how many. Grin…. I saw a need for someone to do custom sewing and I jumped in on it.

Can you tell me about your business and what products/services you offer?

We offer alterations, custom slip covers, draperies, soft upholstery and much more.

What do you love most about being a business owner in the Greater Summerside area?
I love being in Summerside area as the community has been very supportive. We have a lot of repeat customers and that saves on advertising. Word of mouth is the best advertisement you can get and we seem to have lots of it.

What advice would you give to someone looking to start a business, and why should they choose the Greater Summerside area?
People often say they would love me to open a store in Charlottetown, however I love the feel of Summerside and I love the people here.
