1. What is your name and name of the business?

We are Cory & Jannett Jones and our business is Jonesy’s Style Mens Fashion.

2. How long has your business been operating, and how long has it been operating in the Greater Summerside area?

We opened the shop November 1 2023. This is our only and first location so we are still fairly new.

3. What inspired you to start this business, and what made you choose your location?

We  have had many conversations in the 14 years we have been together about opening different business we wanted to see in the Summerside area, and have never followed through with any of these ideas until now. Cory really takes a lot of pride in the way he looks and the clothes he wears and often has a hard time finding clothes in the Summerside area that he likes, as there are very few shops that offer quality & style in men’s clothing. There are many options for women and we saw a niche business opportunity.

We were talking about what the ideal store would look like and made up the plan for Jonesy’s Style Men’s Fashion. We both know Summerside very well and knew that our current location 360 Water Street had been a women’s shop a few years ago and could potentially be the ideal location for a men’s store. We popped into David’s next door and asked for the contact number for the landlord. When Cory called him, he said the space was not advertised for rent but allowed Cory to pitch him the business plan. He loved it and said “yes”

4. Can you tell me about your business and what products/services you offer?

We started our business by buying enough clothing from sellers on marketplace to get us set up. About half of our inventory now is men’s clothing and accessories that have been brought in on consignment from customs. We offer denims, suits, t-shirts, dress shirts, hoodies, hats, shoes, belts ties, watches and more.  We have custom scented Jonesy’s Style men’s body butter and candles and have partnered with some local PEI entrepreneurs and now stock some of their products we wanted to see in the shop.

We also sell travel-sized refillable cologne atomizers and have a very large selection of fragrances to choose from. We offer a unique shopping experience to our customers that includes personalized styling for anyone who needs our support.  We often have customers who come into the shop and ask for support in updating their wardrobe for a multitude of reasons. We also offer FREE delivery in the Summerside area, FREE garment steaming and discounts for Chamber members.

5.  How has the local community responded to your business?

When we opened, we had many local residents and business owners stop in and welcome us to the community which was very kind of them. We’ve had customers come into the shop who were sent here by other local businesses, and we have several returning customers who we have come to get to know by name. We’ve had customers looking for very specific items, and if we don’t have it in stock, we’ve offered to do our best to find it and to contact them when we do with no obligation to buy. This        has caught most of them by surprise that we would do that for them. Our goal is to make every customer a happy customer and give them a unique experience they won’t get anywhere else.

6. What do you love most about being a business owner in the Greater Summerside area?

We love getting to know our customers. We are so grateful for the support we’ve gotten from networking with other businesses and the community is great. We also LOVE the view down here on the water. It’s incredible and makes coming to work easier.

7.  Are there any specific challenges or advantages to running a business in the Greater Summerside area?

10. What advice would you give to someone looking to start a business, and why should they choose the Greater Summerside area?

My advice would be to just go with it if you have the means to do so. Starting up a business is scary and exciting at the same time. If you are passionate about it and believe in what you are offering, you will be successful.
