Thane Smallwood grew up on Mt Edward Road in Charlottetown. He was proud to attend UPEI and obtained a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from UNB.
The first 16 years of his career he worked for Michelin Tires Canada Ltd. in progressing roles of responsibility from Industrial Engineering through operational roles and finally as a member of the Senior Management Team.
In 2006 Thane moved to PEI after accepting the role of General Manager for the PEI Bag Co, a food packaging company located in Central Bedeque, PEI. As a privately owned small business in rural PEI, PEI Bag Co has strong heritage, loyal customers and experienced employees. Thane enjoys the constant learning and the variety of work that a small business management team experiences…one day delivering product to customers…. the next, helping to create strategic plans to move the company forward.
An Irish heritage ensured Thane was well entrenched in the Rugby community while at UNB and living in N.S. While memories and friendships still endure from those days, volunteering has been his enjoyable venture over the past number of years. Involvement in The Summerside Rotary Club, Summerside Chamber of Commerce, Central Development Corporation, a member of the Economic Advisory Committee for East Prince/West Queens and Coaching soccer keeps the evenings busy.
Thane lives in Summerside with wife, Suzanne Pettit, 2 boys Connor and Stephen, and 3 pets!
His stated challenges for the future are; to shepherd his sons to be honourable young adults with a high level of integrity and work ethic; to ensure the continued success of the PEI Bag Co for the next generation of customers, employees and owners and to regain a fitness level to enjoy riding his Cervelo road bike.
