GSCC Cyber Security Tips!

We are informing you of a recent security incident: Ashlyn’s email account experienced a temporary breach due to unauthorized access.

We have secured the account, investigated the intrusion, and the breach is now contained. However, the safety of our community’s data is paramount. We urge all recipients to be extremely cautious and vigilant against potential phishing attempts.

6 Essential Steps to Boost Your Online Security

Following this incident, please immediately implement or verify these essential cyber safety practices:

  1. Software Updates: Keep Operating Systems and Applications Current. Updates contain crucial security patches that close vulnerabilities hackers exploit.

  2. Email Suspicion: Do NOT Click on Unexpected Links or Attachments. Be alert for urgent demands, poor grammar, or offers that seem too good to be true. Delete them immediately.

  3. Verify Identity: Expect Personalized Communication from Us. Legitimate sensitive communications will always address you by your full name or business name, not generic titles (“Dear Customer”).

  4. Use Protections: Install and Maintain Antivirus/Anti-Malware Software. This is your vital first layer of defense against harmful files and threats.

  5. Password Discipline: Use Long, Unique, and Complex Passwords. Passwords should be at least 12 characters, combining letters, numbers, and symbols. Use a password manager and never reuse passwords.

  6. Enable 2FA/MFA: Turn On Two-Factor Authentication. Enable 2FA on email, banking, and critical accounts. This extra step verifies identity even if a hacker has your password.

We appreciate your cooperation in taking these steps to ensure your security.
