The Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce (GSCC) acknowledges yesterday’s announcement by the federal government of a significant tariff relief package for Atlantic Canadian Businesses. This new $80 million fund is designed to support small and medium-sized businesses in our region that have been impacted by ongoing global trade disputes and retaliatory tariffs.
This initiative, part of a larger $1 billion national Regional Tariff Response Plan, will be administered by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA). The GSCC is pleased to see this direct investment in effort to bolster resilience and growth of our local business community.
The primary objective of this funding is to assist businesses in diversifying their export markets, investing in new technologies to enhance productivity and/or strengthening supply chains for members in key sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture, and the seafood industry.
The GSCC has been an advocate for our members who have faced uncertainty and increased operational costs due to the ongoing tariff situation. We are encouraged by this targeted relief package from the Federal Government. It provides a tangible opportunity for our local businesses to not only weather the current challenges but also to innovate and explore new avenues for growth.
We encourage all our members who have been affected by recent tariffs to begin considering how this support could benefit their operations. The Chamber will be hosting an information session in the coming weeks to provide further details and answer questions.
