Following the collapse of trade negotiations with the United States, the Government of Canada has announced new counter-tariffs on $27.6 billion worth of U.S. goods. Beginning September 8, Canada will impose tariffs ranging from 15% to 50% on products including steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, and electronics, matching U.S. tariffs "dollar for dollar."

In addition, Ottawa is introducing a $7.5 billion support package for Canadian workers and businesses affected by the ongoing trade dispute. Measures include support for small and medium-sized businesses, assistance for impacted workers, and extensions to select Employment Insurance programs.

The Chamber will continue to monitor developments and share information relevant to our business community as details become available.
