Summerside, PE (Feb 3, 2023): On Feb. 2nd, members of the Island business community came together to celebrate the 2022 Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards at the Loyalist Country Inn. The event, sponsored by Innovation PEI, honoured finalists and winners in eight different categories: Business Excellence in an organization with 1-10 Employees, Business Excellence in an organization with 11+ employees, New Business of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Community Impact, Employee of the Year, Accessibility & Inclusivity, and Lifetime Business Achievement.
Nominations were put forward last fall by members of the community, and voting took place in January to determine the winners. Over 3500 unique votes were cast by members of the Community to determine this year’s winners.
The winner of the Business Excellence Award (1-10 Employees), sponsored by Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham, was Quannessence Skincare, with Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour, Double Eagle Indoor Golf and G&T Book Café as finalists. The Business Excellence Award (11+ Employees), sponsored by ADL, was presented to Murphy’s Pharmacies, with Summerside Toyota and Cox & Palmer as finalists. The New Business of the Year Award, sponsored by CBDC, was won by Home by Caley Joy, with PEI Roti and ReWilde as Finalists.
The Innovator of the Year Award, sponsored by StandardAero, was awarded to Arsenault Bros. Construction, with the Prince County Hospital and the Construction Association of PEI as finalists. ADL was the recipient of the Community Impact Award, which was sponsored by the City of Summerside and presented by His Worship Dan Kutcher. Summerside Community Fridge and PEI Mutual were runners up in this category.
Nikki Moulins of Go Girl Fashions was the winner of the Employee of the Year Award, sponsored by Slemon Park Corporation, with her co-worker Kelly Bagnell, Darlene Jadis of Abegweit First Nation and Charles Crowther of Enman’s Audio Visual as runners-up. The final award of the night, the Lifetime Business Achievement Award, sponsored by RBC, went to Warren Ellis of Summerside Chrysler Dodge, with Bill Martin, Bloyce McLellan and David Groom as finalists in the category.
“Each of the nominated businesses and individuals have made a lasting impact on the Summerside area, and the GSCC is so proud to recognize their accomplishments” says Kaley O’Brien, Executive Director of the Summerside Chamber. “This year we had such a diverse group of nominees for the BEA’s, and it’s a direct reflection of the growing business sector that we have here in the Greater Summerside Area. We hope that these awards will serve as an inspiration to new businesses and entrepreneurs.”
