Outlined below is information on the Wendell J. Gallant Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students who have applied for enrollment in a post-secondary program and who are a son or daughter of a Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce member, or are employed by a GSCC member.

This scholarship was established by the family of Wendell J. Gallant who was President of our Chamber in 1989, with the stated intention “To enhance the future likelihood of young people contributing to the business community of the Greater Summerside area.” Wendell was passionate about community development and demonstrated a willingness to help anyone who sought his advice. Wendell was a strong supporter of the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce, and was energetic in the undertaking of any task presented to him, resulting in a beneficial outcome to the business community. While involved with the Chamber, he served as an Executive member, Chair of the Coin Committee, Chairman of the Fisheries directorship, a member of the Agricultural Committee for the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Advisory Council, and chaired the working committee during the closure and redevelopment of Canadian Forces Base, Summerside. He also served as Chamber Past-President.
Applicants must:
- Have applied for enrollment in an undergraduate program at a university, or in a diploma program at a community college,
- Have a high academic standing and demonstrate school and community involvement.
- Attend, or have just graduated from grade 12 and reside within the geographic area.
- Be the son or daughter of a Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce member, or be employed by a GSCC member, with the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce membership being required by March 31st of the year that the scholarship may be awarded.
The scholarship will be awarded using Chamber selection criteria by the Scholarship Committee organized by the Chamber. The scholarship will be paid jointly to its recipient and to the University or College at which the recipient has been accepted. This year two $1000 scholarships will be given out!
